  • Overview

    The Capital of Annapolis, Md., seeks a thoughtful, energetic and creative

    leader to join our staff as a news content editor as we rebuild our newsroom. This position would

    serve as second-ranking editor in the newsroom, reporting to the editor.

    This journalist will work urgently with our journalists to get breaking

    news on the site and coordinate ongoing coverage. A good candidate for

    this position should be an innovator, suggesting different ways to tell

    stories and engage audiences.

    Responsibilities

    -Coordinate daily news coverage for Anne Arundel County, preparing the

    daily report on online and print.

    -Work urgently with reporters on coverage of breaking news, occasionally

    doing rewrite to get updated content on capitalgazette.com immediately.

    -Assists with social promotion of content in concert with our audience

    team.

    -Works with other editors to plan out upcoming coverage.

    -Works with photo editor and audience team on news stories, news alerts

    and top stories.

    -Oversees reporters covering city, county and state government, the Naval

    Academy, crime and courts.

    -Works with other editors and audience team to find different story forms

    to disseminate news.

    -Updates news collections on website working in concert with audience team.

    -Produces the daily budget, a list of stories going online and intended

    for print. Ensures there is a lead art package, news lead for print.

    Qualifications

    At least four years of digital experience editing and producing content.

    -Four years of management experience that includes a collegial and

    encouraging management style that fosters budding talent and challenges

    veteran employees.

    -Ability to work strategically with our audience team in the effort to

    grow site traffic.

    -Solid journalistic credentials with comprehensive knowledge of media law

    including copyright, libel, two-party consent, privacy, and fair use

    questions, in addition to a highly developed sense of ethics.
